My art emerges from being with nature and sensing in an embodied way - seeking to hear rock, tree and wind whisper.

Then I can respond with hand, brush, body or branch in an unfolding collaborative, creative dialogue.

About Sarah

Nature feels like a living work of art —
and humans are part of its unfolding.”

Since childhood, I’ve turned to nature for belonging and inspiration — a place of acceptance, awe, stillness, and creative freedom. In the natural world, I feel most alive: embodied, curious, and connected. My art practice grows from this relationship.

My path to this practice has moved through many landscapes. For more than twenty years, I worked in community and public health across remote Australia and internationally, often alongside communities whose cultural and emotional lives were deeply tied to the land. These experiences revealed how art can sustain the vital bond between humans and the natural world.

After surviving a rare cancer, I shifted my focus entirely towards art and retrained as a creative arts therapist. My practice now bridges art, the human condition, nature and reconnecting humans with the natural environment through creative engagement.

I work mostly with natural materials — plant-based inks, clay, pigments and the elements. When working with surfaces such as canvas and paper I often leave them deep in the landscape, exposed to wind, fog, rain and woodland detritus. When revisited, nature’s imprints are revealed and I respond in kind; together our collaboration continues through a dance of mark-making, textures and form.

I also create place based ephemeral sculpture, ceramics and mixed media works that explore materiality and time.

Rooted in eco-phenomenology, my arts practice is about co-creating with nature, not about it — working in collaboration with nature.

“My art is a co-creation, an act of reciprocity with the more-than-human world.”

My studio is a 160-acre conservation property, I return to the same places over seasons and years, allowing each work and experience to unfold in its own rhythm.

Through my work, I hope to reawaken a sense of connection and empathy towards the natural world, reminding us that nature, like creativity, is fundamental to human wellbeing.
